Further Consideration of YGB

As discussed in class, Nathaniel Hawthorne was using his writing to work through some personal issues regarding his family history and the Salem Witch Trials of 1692.

Choose a historical event about which you feel strongly, and write a short tale in which you make a social or political statement about the event without overtly referring to it.

Interesting and substantive responses to this assignment will earn ten (10) participation points to be redeemed in the second quarter.

The deadline for submission of comments is 11:59pm on Sunday, 20 November 2005.

Peace,
Dr. K.

I inherited 40 billion dollars one day and I was asked to be interviewed by 60 minutes. I responded to the question with a enthusiastic yes. When I was on the prestigious news show, they asked me what my view on the current mess Bush has got the U.S. into. I replied that the United States should have directly killed or captured individual terrorists and leave the countries they lived in alone. I don't remember any Iraqis writing President Bush letters asking him to bring democracy to their home country of Iraq. Some Iraqis were grateful that we came to stop the awful dictatorship, but others were not. If I could meet with the Presidents of the United States I would tell him/her to be less concerned about saving other countries from their internal problems and focus more on our own countries internal problems.

While he was stronger than all of the other Polar Bears, Rocko was as gentle as the youngest female cub. He rarely ever showed his fellow bears his sharp teeth, and didn't resort to violence unless one of the members of the pack was threatened. All of the bears knew that Rocko would be the obvious choice to take over the pack once the aging Perteus died. Perteus had been the well-respected unofficial leader of the pack since the winter many years ago when he unselfishly nearly starved himself during a most harsh winter for the good of the younger cubs. Another year, he single-handedly defended the group from the attacks of the vicious mountain lions.

In the weeks before the winter, the most critical time of survival for Polar Bears, Perteus collapsed and died after a long, dignified life. As expected, Rocko lead the pack through the winter. At first, Rocko continued his unselfish ways, sharing his food with the others. After a few weeks under the Rocko administration however, part of the bears' food started to go missing. The only one who could have taken the food was Rocko. The other bears also noticed a mysterious weight gain in Rocko, something that can only happen to Polar Bears in the winter if they add to their diet. The final straw came when Rocko allowed a pack of mountain lions to take some of his pack's food and kidnap some young cubs in exchange for a mating seession between Rocko and a young female mountain lioness. This newfound power had changed Rocko into something he could never have forseen.

When we think of war, we see in our minds people dying. When we think of disease, we think of cancers, aids or starvation. When we think of ongoing problems, we see the government of the many countries of this decaying world and the problems that they seem to put us in. But when we think of life, what comes to mind? Is it babies being born and growing up, or is it the idea of going through time and experiencing many different things. For once in our lives we see that not all is bad, there is some good, new headlines for the papers, new top stories in the news, but it is just to bad that for some reason it seems that evil always comes out on top. Sometimes it takes disasters to unite the people in the world, like when the Twin Towers fell. Sometimes it takes a fall down the stairs to open your eyes and realize that at any time we can be doomed to end our lives. Sometimes it takes a trip to a foreign country to open our minds to see that there is more outside the state boundaries. The human race is really disastrous. When we think of evil, think of weapons or killer animals or diseases or natural disasters .................... but what about humans?

A large hurricane hit the country of Honduras several years ago. Mudslides were everywhere, total chaos. Many people died and there was no way to reach the people that were trapped under the mud. The people hit hardest the most were the poor people. Many people questioned why aid was not sent much sooner to reach all the people that were trapped. The United States had sent aid to the damaged zone, but questioned the government of the country of Honduras why not enough aid was sent to help all those that were affected. The government said there were too many people trapped and we could only save those that were extremely easy to locate. The gov. did as much as they could with aid and search teams to find all those lost in the mud.

Saddam Rashaud Reshean was a 19 years old in 2002 and he lived in Iraq. He was a very peaceful Muslim and a very smart student. He was planning on studying at an American College the next year. He had never attended a terrorist meeting in his life. September 11, 2002, was just like any other day for Saddam. He woke up early and started his daily prays. He then waited for breakfast and went to school. Little did he know that this day would change the outcome of his life

At first Saddam had no idea this day would change his day. But he soon found out about Islamic extremist crashing four airplanes on American soil. He knew from the beginning that this would change his life. He knew that his dream of going to American college was over, even though he didn’t understand why. Why, should a terrorist attack that he had no part of affect the decision of letting him go to college in American? He knew he was clearly smart enough to get in, but because he was Islamic they didn’t want him. He was pissed and thought it was ridiculous, but he knew he couldn’t do anything to change it. He instead decided to go to college in Iraq. He finished his studies with amazing grades, and went into Med School. After one and half years of studying med school, a man he never met, took his life away. The town where he was attending med school was bombed by the United States and Saddam was killed instantly. He was a student and not a terrorist at all, but he was treated like one. No one heard of his death and no one cared bout his death. But it’s a shame that he couldn’t have survived, because who knows he could of made the cure for cancer. The world will never know, because America thought a 25-year-old med student was a huge terrorist threat.

King Doublya was a simple, crazy and mean king. But many people thought he was very good, the same people who thought his father was a good king. Now King Doublya, was the ruler of Gulliblopolis. One day King Doublya was informed that a plague was going to strike Gulliblopolis' two main water supply chambers. He thought nothing of it, as he choked on a pretzel. Secretely, King Doublya was reinforcing his own water supply, so the plague would not contaminate his water. A few months later, sure enough, Gulliblopolis' two main water supplie chambers were infected by the plague and destroid. Many of the towns people died and chaos shortly broke out. To cover it all up, King Doublya told his secretary, the Noblewoman Getchaown Rice, to tell the people that the Royal Government new nothing about the plague, and the Royal Government was doing everything they could to help the people. In the midst of all this chaos, King Doublya left Gulliblopolis and went on vacation for many moons, leaving everyone else to handle his business and take care of his mess.

One day i was going into my european history class at college. At the time we were studying the world War 2. My professor asked me my feelings about when the United states bombed Japan. I responded by saying that I did not agree with what happened. I told him I believed that the United states could have won the war without having to go to such extreme measures. I pointed out that the other axis powers had alreasy surrendered so it would have onyl been a matter of time before Japan was forced to do the same. Therefore the bomb was not needed.
